Who is FODMAP Friendly?
FODMAP Friendly is a certification body and organization specializing in IBS and the Low FODMAP Diet. It was founded in 2012 in collaboration with Dr Sue Shepherd, one of the lead researchers of the Low FODMAP Diet, based in Melbourne, Australia. It was the first low FODMAP food certification in the world.
What does FODMAP Friendly do?
FODMAP Friendly has 4 pillars organization: certification, ingredient testing, education, and awareness.
1. Certification
FODMAP Friendly tests, evaluates, and certifies branded food products based on their FODMAP content, ensuring they meet the requirements for individuals following a Low FODMAP Diet. Brands then use the Certification Trademark logo on their packaging. Consumers can use the easily recognized logo to identify suitable foods and Eat with Confidence.

2. Ingredient Testing
FODMAP Friendly laboratory tests individual, non-branded foods for their FODMAP content and shares this data free to the public inside the Food List of their app. They represent the FODMAP content present in foods as a percentage of the allowance of FODMAPs an individual can have in a single serve of food.
They have also recently released a recipe maker which allows users to check if their meals or snacks are low FODMAP, further liberalising the low FODMAP diet and allowing users to add more variety into their life.
3. Education
FODMAP Friendly collaborates and partners with universities, dietitians, gastroenterologists and IBS experts around the world to share information on IBS and the Low FODMAP Diet via their app, website and social media platforms. They have partnered with the University of Michigan to develop the GI Institute, an online, global education platform aimed at training healthcare professionals on various gastrointestinal disorders.
4. Awareness
IBS deserves greater awareness.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) often flies under the radar compared to other well-known gastrointestinal conditions, like celiac disease. Yet both conditions affect millions of people worldwide.
While celiac disease impacts roughly 1% of the global population, IBS is far more prevalent, affecting an estimated 10–15%.
Despite the significant toll both conditions take on quality of life, IBS remains the more common gastrointestinal disorder.
To bridge this gap, FODMAP Friendly is dedicated to raising awareness about IBS and the Low FODMAP Diet through their app, website and online resources, including articles, blogs, recipes, guides and meal plans. Their resources and information are free and readily accessible.
